What is it Like Being an Intern at Polar Semiconductor?
In honor of National Intern Day (July 27th, 2023), we sat down with two of our standout summer interns to discuss their time here at Polar Semiconductor. A huge THANK YOU to Grace and Ben for agreeing to take time out of their busy days to participate.
“I’ve been able to apply a lot of what I’ve learned in my classes. It has been pretty cool.”
What was the most rewarding thing about working with your department this summer?
I’ve been able to work with a variety of people: EE (Equipment Engineers), Process Engineers, and EMTs (Equipment Maintenance Technicians). I feel like EE is the perfect role for my major.
Have you enjoyed working alongside other Polar interns?
I think it is good to have other interns who are in the same phase of life as you and it has been interesting to hear about the different projects they’ve been working on. To bounce stuff off of them has been nice.
How would you describe this internship experience to others?
It has been a really great experience. I’m leading my own project. I have independence and I’ve learned how to manage the project. But, I’ve also had support so that I can do a good job on my project. I can get feedback on how things are going. My managers want me to get as much as possible from the internship, which is nice.
Looking back, what do you wish you would have known before starting this internship?
I didn’t know anything about semiconductors when I started here. I wish I had known that you don’t have to know everything when you start. An internship is about learning. Also, it is okay to make mistakes—that is just part of learning.
“My favorite part has been sitting in the fab watching the machines and trying to determine how they work because every machine is an interesting process.”
What was the most rewarding thing about working with your department this summer?
Learning about what industrial engineers actually do in the semiconductor industry and at Polar.
Have you enjoyed working alongside other Polar interns?
Yes. I hear about other aspects of Polar you normally wouldn’t see. Behind the scenes.
How would you describe this internship experience to others?
I work on projects to analyze the efficiency of the robots and the operators. I observe the machines to ensure accurate data collection and efficiency. Basically, I am in the fab observing and collecting data.
Looking back, what do you wish you would have known before starting this internship?
I wish I had known a little more about the process of creating a semiconductor and everything that goes into it.
